Here’s what’s new in theaters this weekend and the general consensus on each!
1. Accidental Love – PG 13 – Comedy – starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Jessica Biel
Critics Consensus: ZERO critics LIKE it. Safe to say, “the movie sucks”.
*C’mon, Jake! Sure, we all need to work, and do what we must until we can do what we want. I thought by now, you were more into the “do what you want” stage. You have greatness ahead, and I can’t wait to see it.
2. The Gunman – Rated R – Action – starring Sean Penn – 16% of critics LIKE
Critics Consensus: the uninspired plot and rote set pieces are overshadowed by Sean Penn’s physique and prove a muddled misfire in the rapidly aging over-50 action hero genre
*Hmm! Sean Penn is unique, talented, and I still have hopes for another major movie success with his name attached.
3. Insurgent – Rated PG-13 – starring Shailene Woodley & Theo James – 34% of critics LIKE
Critics Consensus: Shailene Woodley gives it her all, but Insurgent is still a resounding step back for a franchise struggling to distinguish itself from the dystopian YA crowd.
*Having watched the first one, I will still probably see this, this weekend. Hope I don’t have more Hunger Games comparisons come to mind.
I predict another “Cinderella” winning-weekend at the box-office. Btw… it’s excellent!!!
